Introduction

Custodian is looking for a passionate UI/UX designer who will bring a clean, modern, minimal design to the vibrant and passionate world of specialist cars and collectable assets.

The work is project-based but we are looking at building a long-term relationship. Our co-founders have designed the current platform so far and we have built the app both on mobile and desktop. Now we are looking for someone to help us design our next features - we have full product specifications for each project - in a way that isn’t out of touch with the existing platform & its general feel. 

We’ll work remotely and we don’t mind where you live; we are an international team!

The Custodian team is bringing together top talent from the tech, automotive, finance, and marketing spaces and are hyper focused on one mission: taking the pain out of automotive ownership.

But that’s not all, cars are just the start!  In the future we plan to make ownership easy across all collectable assets: we want to “make ownership easy”.

Our Team & Culture

We’re a team of petrolheads, engineers, and marketers in London, Spain, Los Angeles, and San Francisco redefining the automotive ownership experience. We are all very passionate people - we love what we do, and each of us strives to be the best in our respective field. 

You’ll be collaborating directly with Jeremy Hindle, exceptional tech entrepreneur, Forbes Under 30 and YC Alumni, Nathalia Rus, stellar multi-talented engineer also known as @yeahgirlscode, Charles Clegg, ex-investment banker and historical racer whose passion is contagious, Shayan Bokaie, ex-Partner at Petrolicious (one of the most popular lifestyle-automotive media platforms in the world), etc.

Your Projects

We already have our mobile & web-app developed and it is beta-launched. The platform so far has been designed by our co-founders (Nathalia & Jeremy). 

The projects consist of adding additional features to it. We like clean, minimal, modern design and it shouldn’t be out of touch with the existing feel of the platform - feel free to upgrade anything, as long as it still feels consistent overall. We would write detailed specs and communicate with you very precisely on what each feature entails and contains. 

The first project we have is relatively small: we would like to add a reminder system to our existing task manager. Next projects include car showrooms, expansion of tools in digital garage management and services, etc (we’ll brief more on a call, but you get the idea).

Our Company

Whilst we have been developing the core platform this past year, we have also built a strong existing following in the automotive community of over 20,000 car enthusiasts, driven by our publication and podcast series called The Apex. We have done podcasts and interviews with some of the taste-makers and thought-leaders in the industry, including David Gandy, Lord Alexander Hesketh, Amy Shore, etc . Now launched in beta for our early users, we’ve just raised money from several top investors and are ready to take Custodian to the next level. 

Ideally, you…

  • You have a portfolio that demonstrates the ability to come up with clean, minimal, satisfying, modern design. We want our app to be uncluttered, intuitive and easy to use, whilst erring on the premium-side feel. 
  • You can design for both mobile & desktop apps (we are cross-platforms).
  • You know how to adapt to an existing brand feel: to design new features within an existing product, and be innovative whilst following the design guidelines in place. 
  • We expect you to be proficient with Figma (or ready to adopt it for the projects). A tool that we heavily use in-house for its stellar collaboration capabilities, and ease of use.
  • Experience could be gained via professional or personal projects.
  • You don’t forget about the little things.
  • You move fast. We are an ambitious tech startup and we have a fast-paced cadence: we carry our mission with a sense of urgency.
  • You are reachable. Good, frequent communication is crucial to us.

The Process

  2. The founders and yourself will then jump on a call. We’ll ask you questions about your work, and get to know you a little bit. 
  3. Depending on experience and how confident we are that you are a good match for us, we may ask you to provide us with a quick design ( or brainstorm design ) of a small feature - something that wouldn’t take you long, we are respectful of your time!
  4. After that, we’ll want to press forward! Done.

Regarding the rates - this will depend on the candidate’s experience, and it’s more likely we’ll have a fixed rate for each project.

You'll make your job application by completing the form above.

We read through every application we receive. We will get back to you as quickly as we possibly can.

We do our best to inform unsuccessful candidates as best as we can where we think they were lacking and offer suggestions as to their personal career opportunities where appropriate.

In the case where there is simply another stronger candidate and we only have one role to fill we will sometimes ask an applicant if we can keep their records should another position become available soon.

If successful, we will invite you to interview with us. The exact process differs depending on the role. The email asking you to interview will include any role specific steps which are required to help us make the right decision about who to hire.

As a company we are committed to hiring people even when there isn't always adequate experience in the past. Many of our talented team-members had no official experience in their roles and we try to offer opportunities to those who are the same.

Depending on how many applications there are for a particular role, interviews may take up to 2 weeks to complete.  Therefore the time it will take to inform you as to whether we would like to offer you the role, can be anywhere between 1 and 14 days. We will give you an estimate of this at the end of your interview.
5.
Internally we will rank our preferred hires and reach out to them in that order. If you do not reply within 24 hours we will reach out to the next candidate (if there is one) making an informal offer to them. Once a candidate accepts their informal offer we will send over the official job offer.

Basically if you are our first choice you get 24 hours headstart on others to say you would like to take the role.

If you are unsuccessful we will do our best to inform you as to why, similar to above.

If you are successful we will make you an official job offer.

Should you accept the official job offer and sign the appropriate documents, we will begin an onboarding process immediately.

Different jobs required different onboarding. The role specific process will be communicated at this time based on your current working arrangements, notice periods and training required to perform your new job!
