About us

Custodian is a software platform built to make owning specialist cars easy and is set up to become the center of the enthusiast automotive industry.  We provide enthusiast owners with everything they need to look after their car, including insurance, financing, document tracking, image storage, reminders and more.  The platform also includes a marketplace, leading automotive publication (The Apex), and several social features for car lovers.

We started Custodian 2 years ago bringing together top talent from the tech, automotive, finance, and marketing spaces.  Since then Custodian has amassed over £100M worth of cars being managed by 3000+ enthusiast owners on the platform.  Our podcast and publication the Apex has also accumulated a following of over 22k die hard automotive fans.  We’re backed by some of the biggest names in Venture and Angel investing and are well established to take our business to Series A in the next two years (even in the current investment climate).

We hire globally, but are currently restricted to GMT -5 +5 time zones and have a preference towards people who are willing to travel to automotive events in the UK if their role requires it.

Our Team & Culture

We’re a team of petrolheads, engineers, and marketers in London, Spain, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. We are all very passionate people - we love what we do, and each of us strives to be the best in our respective field.   We’re product led as an organization and all operate with deep care for our users and the automotive industry as a whole.

You’ll be working directly with Jeremy Hindle, exceptional tech entrepreneur, Forbes Under 30 and YC Alumni, Nathalia Rus, stellar multi-talented engineer also known as @yeahgirlscode, Charles Clegg, ex-investment banker and historical racer, Shayan Bokaie, ex-Partner at Petrolicious (one of the most popular lifestyle-automotive media platforms in the world), and an incredible team of passionate individuals.

The Role

We’re looking for our first full-time UI/UX Designer to lead our product's design language going forward.

The person will be focussed on creating a design which appeals to our passionate users whilst collaborating with a very strong frontend engineering team.  The candidate will be working closely with one of our co-founders Nathalia, who leads all engineering for our front end application and has been responsible for platform design to date.

There is also an opportunity to get involved with some of the exciting projects associated with our podcast and publication the Apex which interacts with the very top of the Automotive and Lifestyle industries.  If you like cars and automotive lifestyle… this is probably one of the coolest jobs out there.

What you will be doing

Day to day:

  • Defining and iterating on the platform and company design language (Desktop, tablet and mobile UI/UX).
  • Working closely with Jeremy on Product to create great wireframes and UX which work for our users.
  • Iterating on UX for feedback from Product and Leadership.
  • Creating design specifications for our engineering team to recreate and implement.
  • Iterate on created specifications to support further or interactive functionality / A/B testing.
  • Learning from our users using PostHog to improve the platform and measure experimental design changes.
  • Jumping on and supporting Web/Marketing teams with small pieces of work on occasion.

On joining:

  • Upgrading our existing founder-led designs.
  • Creating a consistent design language operating in a similar fashion to the design team at Airbnb
  • Wireframing and Designing our upcoming features: Showroom, On Display, Insurance Onboarding, Cost of Ownership Dashboards (and lots more).
  • Embedding yourself into an automotive lifestyle. Meet our users and feel our industry.

Tools we use:

  • Figma (required)
  • Photoshop
  • Lightroom
  • After Effects (Lottie)

Ideally, you…

  • Like clean, consistent, minimal and modern design.  If you embrace the mantra of less is more we’ll get on great!
  • Have the ability to ship iteratively.
  • You have a portfolio that demonstrates your ability. We want our app to be uncluttered, intuitive and easy to use, whilst giving a premium feel.
  • You like designing for both mobile & desktop applications (we are cross-platform).
  • We expect you to be good with Figma. Being able to collaborate and iterate quickly with the tool will be extremely important.
  • You don’t forget about the little things.
  • You move fast. We are an ambitious tech startup and we have a fast-paced cadence: we carry our mission with a sense of urgency.
  • You have good communication skills.

Bonus if…

  • You love cars!

And if you don’t know much about cars ? No problem. We enjoy introducing future generations to the automotive and collectables world: we find it remarkable how a shared interest for a physical object brings people together to create incredible adventures and stories, and form hugely passionate communities. And we hope you will be part of that journey!

Application Process

1.
You'll make your job application by completing the form above.
2.
We read through every application we receive. We will get back to you as quickly as we possibly can.

We do our best to inform unsuccessful candidates as best as we can where we think they were lacking and offer suggestions as to their personal career opportunities where appropriate.

In the case where there is simply another stronger candidate and we only have one role to fill we will sometimes ask an applicant if we can keep their records should another position become available soon.
3.
If successful, we will invite you to interview with us. The exact process differs depending on the role. The email asking you to interview will include any role specific steps which are required to help us make the right decision about who to hire.

As a company we are committed to hiring people even when there isn't always adequate experience in the past. Many of our talented team-members had no official experience in their roles and we try to offer opportunities to those who are the same.
4.
Depending on how many applications there are for a particular role, interviews may take up to 2 weeks to complete.  Therefore the time it will take to inform you as to whether we would like to offer you the role, can be anywhere between 1 and 14 days. We will give you an estimate of this at the end of your interview.
5.
Internally we will rank our preferred hires and reach out to them in that order. If you do not reply within 24 hours we will reach out to the next candidate (if there is one) making an informal offer to them. Once a candidate accepts their informal offer we will send over the official job offer.

Basically if you are our first choice you get 24 hours headstart on others to say you would like to take the role.

If you are unsuccessful we will do our best to inform you as to why, similar to above.

If you are successful we will make you an official job offer.
6.
Should you accept the official job offer and sign the appropriate documents, we will begin an onboarding process immediately.

Different jobs required different onboarding. The role specific process will be communicated at this time based on your current working arrangements, notice periods and training required to perform your new job!
If you have any questions about our application process please don't hesitate to reach out to us on any of our communication channels either when communicating about a specific application and/or in general at careers@custodian.club
